Ashkenaz and Kabbala

This concert dives into the soul of Jewish music, filled with humour, tears and captivating rhythms. Prokofiev’s overture blends elegance with typical “klezmer” sonorities that make your feet itch to dance. Shostakovich gives us music that is both ironic and deeply tragic, something he often used as a covert rebellion against the Soviet regime. Finally, we listen to Golijov’s The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind, an incredibly powerful piece for clarinet and strings that almost sounds like a singing, weeping prayer.
