This concert offers profound, spiritual and emotionally charged sound worlds. We begin and end with magnificent late Romanticism: Mahler’s youthful Piano quartet is steeped in melancholy, while Anton Bruckner’s mighty String quintet is like stepping into an enormous, radiant cathedral. Between these we get to know music by Olivier Messiaen. His “Abyss of the Birds”, played by a solitary clarinet, creates an almost hypnotic experience of timelessness and absolute silence. Close your eyes and let yourself be carried away!
