Marita Sølberg
Norwegian soprano Marita Sølberg made her Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann).
Sølberg trained in Norway and went on to win the Queen Sonja International Music Competition and the Tom Wilhelmsens Foundation Prize. She was a member of Stuttgart Opera 2006–8 and is currently a Principal Artist with Norwegian National Opera, where he repertory includes Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Antonia, Nedda (Pagliacci), Mimì (La bohème), Female Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia) and Solveig (Reinvere’s Peer Gynt). Engagements elsewhere include Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) for LA Opera, Countess Almaviva for La Fenice, Venice, and Mimì for Vienna State Opera.
Sølberg has performed in concert with orchestras including Orchestre de Paris, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, in diverse repertory including Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Mahler’s Symphony no.4 and Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder. Her further awards include the Music Critics’ Prize for performances as Mimì for Norwegian National Opera.
