The Norwegian cellist Benjamin Lund Tomter is a profound chamber and orchestral musician, known for his expressive playing and strong communicative abilities. He is currently employed as Co-Principal Cello (3rd solo cellist) in the Odense Symphony Orchestra, and has already distinguished himself as a versatile musician with wide-ranging experience from both national and international stages.
Benjamin completed his master’s degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music under Professor Torleif Thedéen, where he had also previously taken his bachelor’s degree. He has been a scholarship holder in the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra’s prestigious orchestra academy, a programme with very limited admission, which has given him extensive concert experience and tours to, among other places, Finland and China
As a chamber musician he has appeared at a number of leading festivals, including the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Bergen International Festival, the Gloger Festival and Fjord Classics, where he is a regular participant. Internationally he has, among other things, taken part in the Moritzburg Festival in Germany, where he has also collaborated with prominent musicians such as Jan Vogler.
Among the highlights of his recent activities is his growing international profile as a principal cellist in symphony orchestras, with engagements in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Hanoi, Vietnam in recent years. He has also appeared as soloist with several orchestras, and has performed in contexts ranging from core classical repertoire to more recent and cross-disciplinary projects.
In the spring of 2025 he will appear on a CD release on the Simax label featuring chamber music by Olav Kielland, and in the summer of 2026 a new chamber music CD will be recorded with works by Finn Mortensen.
Benjamin is a dedicated chamber musician with a particular interest in collaboration and musical exploration, and he performs regularly in projects with some of Scandinavia’s leading musicians.
