Christopher Koppitz

Christopher Koppitz, a German-Portuguese oboist, is a versatile artist who is equally passionate about solo, orchestral, and chamber music. He began his musical education at the «Nossa Senhora do Cabo» music school in Lisbon at the age of 8. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the «Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln» under the tutelage of Prof. Christian Wetzel. Since 2021 he has been studying at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover“ with Prof. Kai Frömbgen.

Christopher has achieved national and international success as the winner of numerous competitions. He has won multiple first prizes at «Jugend Musiziert» and has been awarded the «Europa-Preis.» Among other accolades, he secured the first prize in the «Terras de la Salette» competition (Portugal), and in 2015, he was honoured with the second prize and the Audience Prize at the «International Aeolus Competition» in Düsseldorf.

Christopher has gained orchestral experience in several Portuguese youth orchestras and the «Junge Deutsche Philharmonie» (Germany). He was also a member of the internationally renowned «Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester» (2014/2016). As an academy member of the «Chamber Orchestra of Europe» (2014) and the «Sächsischen Staatskapelle Dresden» (2015-2017), he furthered his orchestral experience. He has performed under the direction of renowned conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Herbert Blomstedt, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons, Myung-Whun Chung, Christoph Eschenbach, amongst others.

Christopher regularly appears as a guest solo oboist with esteemed orchestras such as the «NDR Radiophilharmonie», the «Niedersächsischen Staatstheater Hannover», the „Bamberger Symphoniker“, the «Oslo Philharmonic», the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker“, the „Gewandhausorchester Leipzig“ and the «Gürzenichorchester Köln“. This has enabled him to perform alongside distinguished soloists such as Anja Harteros, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Leonidas Kavakos, Sir András Schiff, and others.

As a soloist, he has performed with the «Düsseldorfer Symphoniker», the «Philharmonisches Orchester Hagen» as well as multiple times with the «Nürnberger Symphoniker» and the «Bielefelder Philharmoniker.» With the «Auris Ensemble», he was a scholarship holder of «Villamusica» and the «Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung.» Since October 2017, Christopher has been the principal oboist of the «Bielefelder Philharmoniker.» Additionally, since 2023, he holds the position of Principal Solo-Oboe at the «Norwegian Opera & Ballet Orchestra» in Oslo, Norway.
