Christopher Koppitz

Christopher Koppitz is a German-Portuguese oboist and is currently Principal Oboe in the orchestra of the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet in Oslo. He is recognised for his refined tone, expressive musicality and stylistic versatility, and is in demand both as a section leader and as a guest soloist with leading European orchestras and ensembles.

Alongside his permanent position in Oslo, he appears regularly as guest principal oboist with leading orchestras including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Bamberg Symphony, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and the Royal Northern Sinfonia. His orchestral experience also includes engagements with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, among many others.

From 2017 to 2024 he held the position of Principal Oboe with the Bielefeld Philharmonic, where he quickly established himself as an orchestral musician in Germany. In his formative years he completed academy training with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and performed with prestigious youth orchestras such as the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.

As a soloist Christopher has performed concertos with orchestras such as the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hagen. He has also given solo recitals at festivals such as the Brüser Berger Konzerte in E.

He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne with Professor Christian Wetzel, where he completed his bachelor’s degree, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Professor Kai Frömbgen. He has further developed his artistry through masterclasses with leading oboists such as François Leleux, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Céline Moinet and Dominik Wollenweber.

His achievements have been recognised with a number of prizes and scholarships, including second prize and the audience prize at the international Aeolus Competition (2015). He has also received support from foundations such as Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz and Live Music Now.
