Elisabeth Lund Tomter is a Norwegian violist based in Oslo, who has distinguished herself as a versatile and in-demand musician in both orchestral and chamber music. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she studied with Morten Carlsen and Peter Herresthal.
Elisabeth has further developed her artistry through international masterclasses and academies such as the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, the Moritzburg Festival Academy and the international summer academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in Bad Reichenhall, where she studied with Hariolf Schlichtig. She has also taken part in the Konstknekt mentoring programme with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic as mentors, including Walter Küssner and Christoph Hartmann.
As a performer, Tomter is regularly engaged by leading Norwegian orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra, taking part in concerts, tours and recordings. She is an active chamber musician, with appearances at festivals such as the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival, KORK Kammer and Fjord Classics. She has performed with musicians including Torleif Thedéen, Liza Ferschtman, Esther Hoppe, Barnabás Kelemen and Marc Coppey. Elisabeth gave the world premiere of the solo viola part in Ketil Bjørnstad’s chamber opera Flagstad – The Opera, and has appeared on stages such as Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. Alongside her performing career she is a dedicated teacher, giving both individual tuition and chamber orchestra coaching.
