Portuguese pianist Martim Almeida has performed both as soloist and chamber musician at eminent concert halls in Portugal, France, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Greece and, at the invitation of the Chopin Society of Connecticut, the United States. He made his orchestral début in 2015, with Orquestra Clássica do Centro in Portugal, and has since then recorded for music associations such as Dextra Musica and portuguese classical radio station Antena 2. He regularly appears at various well-known festivals across Europe. Additionally, Martim has taken part in numerous other Scandinavian projects, which incorporated the complete sonatas of Beethoven and Scriabin, as well as the complete folk tunes of Geirr Tveitt. For italian-japanese label Da Vinci Classics, Martim has recorded an album entitled Rhythmic Journeys, featuring the music of Piazzolla, Ravel and Infante, alongside portuguese pianist Bernardo Santos.
Almeida is born in Coimbra, Portugal. He began learning piano with Klara Dolinay and Catarina Peixinho. Early on, he received musical instruction from the noted brazilian pianist and pedagogue Luiz de Moura Castro, and later studied with renowned portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro. He is currently studying under Håvard Gimse at Norges Musikkhøgskole, Oslo, where he was previously part of Kathryn Stott’s class. Martim has benefited from the experience and knowledge of notable pianists such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, Paul Badura-Skoda, Christopher Park, Silke Avenhaus, and Nino Gvetadze.
